Lay Dominicans are Catholic lay people who, inspired by the lives of St. Dominic and the many Dominican saints and blesseds over the past 800 years, attempt to live their lives consistent with the Charisms of the Dominican Order, known as the Order of Preachers. Lay Dominicans are an integral component of the Dominican family, sharing the Order’s mission to preach with the friars, nuns, and sisters.
Those interested in living as Dominicans join a fraternity, through which they enter a multi-year formation process. During this period of discernment, the individual participates in the life of the fraternity, generally meeting once a month, which focuses on the four pillars of the Order - study, prayer, apostolate, and community. Upon completion, the individual makes a perpetual (non-canonical) profession to live as a Dominican.
On January 14, 2023, the Master of the Dominican Order, Fr. Gerard Francisco P. Timoner III, O.P., preached on the occasion of Pope Francis declaring the St. Dominic Parish Church in San Carlos City, Pangasinan, Philippines a minor basilica. In his preaching, Fr. Timoner captured what it is to be Dominican and why being Dominican is so important today. "The mission of the Order to preach Veritas [truth] is an important antidote to another pernicious pandemic - fake news, half-truths, which are in fact half-lies."

Our fraternity meets at the Blessed Sacrament Monastery in Farmington Hills, Michigan. We generally meet on the second Sunday of each month from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. After our meeting, members are invited to join the nuns and the monastery chaplain, Fr. David Santoro, O.P., in the chapel for rosary, evening prayer, and benediction.
Our fraternity is one of 29 fraternities under the governance of the Central (St. Albert the Great) Province of Dominicans - one of the four provinces in the United States.
We are very blessed to call the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament our fraternity’s home. This Dominican Monastery is comprised of cloistered nuns, extern sisters, and a Dominican chaplain, Fr. David Santoro, O.P. If you would like to learn more about the Monastery or Dominican religious vocations, go to the Monastery website on our LINKS page.
